This is a civilian position providing care to specialized U.S. active duty military personnel. The PT is part of a new Human Performance team that will work to optimize fitness and quality of life for military personnel who undergo extreme stresses to their bodies in the line of duty.

Physical Therapist Job Overview:

  • Overall mission is for pre-habilitation services including musculoskeletal strengthening and healthy lifestyle education as part of an overall health maintenance program to enhance injury resistance.
  • Evaluate and provide pre-habilitative assessment and maintenance to specialized U.S. military personnel
  • Pre-habilitation is intended to strengthen the core musculoskeletal system to enhance resistance to neck and back injury.
  • Perform initial evaluation, design individual training program, and establish records for all specialized personnel
  • Develop Individualized Program for each member served: The PT, working with any other team members, to include strength and conditioning coach, athletic trainer, or members of the local medical team when appropriate, will develop an IP for each assigned member.
  • The goals of this IP are to increase neck and back conditioning and overall health to minimize the risk of neck and back injury and to minimize the severity of any injury experienced by the member.
  • After an IP has been developed the PT, as part of the team, will guide ongoing implementation of the IP.
  • Advise unit commanders on matters related to injury prevention and rehabilitation.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP) for fitness programs.
  • Conduct equipment, product, and literature reviews to ensure that the OHWS program continues to improve as our understanding of injury prevention evolves.
  • Provide Human Performance and Pre-habilitative trending metrics report to include: musculoskeletal pain,
  • duration of pain, origin of pain, types of pain, conditions which may require surgery, and trends of musculoskeletal
  • pain over periods of time.


Physical Therapist Job Qualifications:

  • Licensure: active, current, unrestricted. Any U.S. state. 
  • Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy 
  • Graduate from an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) accredited institution
  • Certification: American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) or sports certified specialist (SCS), or certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) as a certified athletic trainer
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience - highly preferred
  • Experience working with professional and/or collegiate athletes, or equivalent
  • Experience working in an orthopedic out-patient physical therapy clinic or sports medicine clinic.
  • CPR / AED


  • Ability to design and present computer-generated outcome analysis information in order to provide timely, effective peer and higher level educational programs or project briefings.
  • Oral and written communication skills in order to meaningfully interact with peers, outside agencies, vendors, providers, and Military Health System (MHS) stakeholders to exchange information, provide briefings and presentations, participate in research, and develop metrics to advance effective and efficient aircrew neck and back pain prevention.
  • Skill in effective team dynamics in order to facilitate the exchange of information/education, enhance goal achievement, and identify change in system or policy at any level.
  • Knowledge and skill in using quality and risk management programs to identify issues to improve practice and ensure compliance, data collection, tracking, trending, and analysis.
