Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) job in San Antonio, Texas. 

Multiple positions, locations, and specialties. Civilian positions within the military medical system throughout the greater San Antonio area for Level 1 trauma centers and speciality clinics. 


Operating Room

  • PALS
  • ACLS
  • 1 year experience within the last 5 years as a LVN in an Operation Room
  • Graduated from a preoperative nursing course either in the military situation or civilian equivalent


Emergency Department 

  • PALS and PALS OR ENCP (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) 
  • 1 year within the last 4 years full-time LVN experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center OR
  • 2 years within the last 4 years full-time LVN experience in a Level II or III ED 


  • ALCS
  • PALS
  • 1 year within the last 3 years full-time experience in PACU

Oncology - Bone Morrow

  • ACLS
  • 3 years full-time LVN experience in medical/surgical 
  • 1 year oncology or bone marrow transplant experience


  • NRP
  • 1 year within the last 3 years full-time LVN experience in a Level III NICU


  • PALS
  • 1 year within the last 3 years full-time LVN experience in a PICU

Pediatric InPatient 

  • PALS
  • 1 year within the past 3 years full-time pediatric inpatient nursing experience  
  • Working knowledge of age specific criteria for ages 1 day to 21 years for hematology/oncology patients
  • Working knowledge of pediatric medication dosages and be willing to train as support personnel in the provisions of chemotherapy 
  • Ability to pass pediatric specific pharmacology exam

Pediatric Special Procedures

  • PALS
  • 2 years within the last 4 years of full-time pediatric LVN experience OR
  • 1 year within the last 3 years of full-time PICU experience 
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, disease processes, and growth/development of infants, children, and adolescents, as well as preventative health schedules.

Medical / Surgical Inpatient  

  • 1 year within the last 5 years of full-time LVN experience in a Medical or Surgical Unit. (1 year within the last 2 years of concurrent speciality unit experience) 
  • Demonstrate neuromuscular assessment, tracheostomy care, and care of patients with chest tubes
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and not have physical restrictions that limit ability to perform independent patient care.

Mental/Behavioral Health

  • 1 year within the last 5 years full-time LVN experience in a Mental Health Unit
  • Knowledge of Preventive Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB), de-escalation techniques, the Joint Commission recommendations for restraint application and experience in the application of mechanical restraints
  • Knowledge of general medical nursing principles and practices the mental health nursing process, individual and family dynamics in health and during illness; individual and group modalities; theories of personality development, human behavior, psychopathology, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, psychotherapies, and physiological and physical response to alcohol and drug abuse withdrawal.
  • Assists professional staff with identifying mental health and nursing diagnosis treatment, patient education and disposition planning.

Gastroenterology Clinic

  • ACLS
  • Attend and maintain conscious sedation certification within 60 days of start.
  • 2 years within the last 4 years of full-time experience as a clinical nurse in the medical/surgical, gastroenterology or critical care inpatient setting.
  • 1 year of post anesthesia/sedation experience 
  • Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment.

Radiation / Oncology 

  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • 2 years within the last 4 years of full-time LVN experience in Medical/Surgical or Radiation/Oncology
  • Working knowledge of Identifying and managing side effects relating to patients undergoing radiation therapy to include radiation skins reactions, fatigue and nutritional support. Knowledge of patients with radioactive seed implants.

General Sugery / Vascular Surgery / Breast Care 

  • ACLS
  • 5 years within the last 6 years of full-time LVN experience in Medical/Surgical experience

Otolaryngology (ENT) 

  • 1 year within the last 3 years of full-time experience in ENT
  • 2 years within the last 3 years in Medical/Surgical 

Would and Ostomy (WOCN) 

  • Certifications: Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Credentialing Board. Exceptions may be made for new Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Education Program (WOCNEP) graduates and they shall obtain certification with one year of employment.
  • Graduated from an accredited WOCN education program
  • 1 year within the past 3 years experience in the specialty

Labor and Delivery

  • NRP
  • 2 years within the last 4 years of full-time LVN experience in a Labor & Delivery unit 
  • Working knowledge: Prepare and recover cesarean section surgical patients with both regional and general anesthesia.
  • Experience managing patients with Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, and insulin drips and patients with epidurals and amnio-infusions.
  • Experience in performing scrub tech role in the OR preferred

Post Partum / Ante Partum

  • NRP
  • 2 years within the last 3 years of full-time LVN experience working on postpartum/ante partum unit

Surgical Center 

  • 1 year within the past 2 years experience in clinical nursing in an active patient care environment.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (National League of Nursing)
  • BLS by American Heart Association

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association
