The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) - Inpatient job is within the military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) Job Overview:

  • Assist in providing acute/urgent care as needed within their scope of care.
  • Provide patient care services as directed by physicians/nurse practitioners/physician assistants, and registered nurses responsible for patient care. 
  • Treat and receive patients, prepare and maintain records, pull and file patient medical records, perform basic secretarial skills, handle telephone calls and written correspondence, serve as a liaison between nurses, medical providers and other medical staff. 
  • Make patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and their skill level with direct oversight of a Registered Nurse; Assess patients, and recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations, to include the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care as required. 
  • Prescribes and communicates treatment plans and patient teaching in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs necessary patient teaching as directed by the attending physician. 
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of established standards of care and Joint Commission requirements for clinical and documentation protocols, safety, infection control, performance improvement, etc., to insure compliance with policies and provide consistent training and guidance for clinic staff. 
    Demonstrate skillin setting up, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, endoscopic equipment, and other emergency department equipment. 
  • Performs/assists with procedures such as bladder catheterizations, administration of oxygen, visual acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes and ears, tympanograms, splinting, phlebotomy and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols. 
  • Clean and store equipment properly at the end of each work shift.
  • Ensures medication/supplies are replenished. 
  • Orient patient and family members to unit and ensure proper handling of personnel items according to policy, performs routine activities of daily living and bedside nursing care, follows established procedures and accurately documents.
  • Appropriately prepares/delivers specimens, and safely transports/retrieves patients from diagnostic procedures. 
  • Perform a range of inpatient diagnostic and treatment procedures, patient teaching and charting, administration of prescribed meds, emergency procedures and daily diagnostic checks with direct oversight of a registered nurse and established personnel. 


Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, and have taken NCLEX-PN boards and passed.
  • Certifications: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, Emotional support program (S.T.A.B.L.E)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • IV therapy training
  • Employment in the nursing field within the last 12 months

  • And at least 2 years of active clinical nursing practice in an inpatient environment.

  • LVN/LPN Licensure: Maintain an active, valid, current, and unrestricted license.
