Radiologist Job Overview:

  • Performs the Full Spectrum of Services of a person trained in Radiology. 
  • Makes and interprets diagnostic images.
  • Reviews requests for x-ray, nuclear radiology, ultrasound, and other diagnostic imaging procedures, and determines applicability of requested procedures.
  • Interviews patients as necessary, and records supplementary data. 
  • Instructs radiology personnel in desired techniques, positions, and projections. Interprets images and confers with medical and dental officers regarding diagnoses of cases.  Prepares comprehensive interpretive reports of findings. Interpretations shall be completed daily by the end of the tour of duty. Interpretations shall consist of medical evaluation of x-ray films exposed and processed by radiology personnel, and digital images displayed on monitors.  Experience with PACS (Picture Archiving Communication and Storage), CR (Computed Radiography), and Digital Radiology is desirable.
  • Performs special procedures.
  • Recommends and performs special imaging procedures, including fluoroscopy, tomography, nuclear imaging, ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, with limitations of available resources and expertise. 
  • Performs and interprets procedures, and prepares comprehensive interpretive report of findings.  Uses radionuclides in diagnostic imaging and in the treatment of disease.  Reviews requests for nuclear imaging and therapeutic procedures, and determines applicability of requested procedures. Interviews and examines patients and records supplementary data. 
  • Instructs and directs nuclear medicine technologists regarding desired dosages, techniques, positions, and projections. Applies data processing techniques, as indicated.  Interprets images and data, and confers with medical and dental officers regarding diagnoses of cases.  Prepares comprehensive interpretive reports of findings. Assures adequate quality control of images.  Establishes and enforces standards for protection of patients and personnel.
  • Routine radiographic studies including the chest, abdomen, extremities, head and neck. Performs and interprets myelograms using fluoroscopic guidance.
  • Supervises performance and interprets the results of screening and diagnostic mammograms, including localization or stereotactic biopsy of suspicious lesions found.
  • Performs a wide variety of ultrasound scans and procedures on patients according to established protocols.
  • Special radiographic studies including fluoroscopic procedures (barium swallow, upper gastrointestinal studies, barium enema, etc.; radiographic procedures of the genitourinary tract, and musculoskeletal system.
  • Performs and interprets all type of studies acquired by CT or MRI scanning.
  • Prescribes and dispenses medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling when appropriate (i.e., for mammogram patients requiring surgical referral, further work-up, etc).
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and significant others' rights, as identified within the institution.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
  • Participates in peer review and performance improvement activities, when required.

 

Radiologist Job Qualifications:

  • Completed a Residency training program or fellowship in Radiology that is approved by the Accreditation Council for graduate Medical Education or by the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
  • License to practice medicine
  • Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology
  • Minimum of 24 months experience as a radiologist within the past three years.
