The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) - Flight Medicine/Occ Health job is within the military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) - Flight Medicine/Occ Health Job Overview:

  • Assists in routine care and treatment of patients, to include flying and special operational duty personnel, when required.
  • Organizes the medical environment, performs and participates in support activities for outpatient care situations, including contingency operations and disasters. 
  • Serves as a member of the Field Response Team and is subject to participate in exercises and real-world incidents as a regular team member. 
  • Serves as a Practical/Vocational Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Monitors and records age appropriate physiological measurements.
  • Orients new patients to the clinic/hospital environment.
  • Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
  • Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative healthcare and health maintenance.
  • Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures.
  • Performs appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures.
  • Records treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects. 
  • Identifies and records patient problems and appropriately notifies provider/nursing  team of observations.
  • Prepares and administers medications in accordance with scope of practice and training.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures.
  • Performs appropriate portions of physical examinations including age appropriate physical measurements.
  • Adheres to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.
  • Performs administrative quality reviews of DLCs, FAE with durations > 180 days, physical examinations for qualification purposes, profiles, and appropriate clearances before these documents are forwarded/leave the facility (Exceptions: routine PHAs, RILO packages, and WWDs).
  • Manages the profiling/duty limitation system IAW AFI 10-203 and AFI 48-149.  Serves as the communication link amongst unit Commanders, health care providers, Profile Officer (PO), and Airmen.
  • Will review assignment actions to ensure Airmen are qualified for PCS


Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) - Flight Medicine/Occ Health Job Qualifications:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) orLicensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) certificate from an accredited national, state or military trained equivalent school.
  • LPN/LVN license
  • Experience performing care and treatment of patients; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment; properly administering oral and parenteral medications; conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations; or assisting in medical treatment of patients
  • Hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months. 
  • Work in an occupational medicine clinic setting is preferred.




 Position contingent on contract award for 1/2019 start.
