Clinical Psychologist job in Sumter, South Carolina.

The Clinical Psychologist is based within the extensive military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Clinical Psychologist position overview:

  • Serve as a member of the primary care clinic's health care team and assist the primary care manager (PCM) in managing the overall health of their enrolled population.
  • Improve management of cognitive and behavioral factors impacting the health of the enrolled population.
  • Function in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) location as an internal behavioral health consultant (IBHC) and/or Behavioral Health Care Facilitator (BHCF)

Internal Behavioral Health Consultant in the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH)

  • Provides brief (typically no more than four appointments) cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care. Services will mimic the pace of primary care (i.e., patients seen for 15- to 30-minute appointments).
  • Provide classes in format appropriate for primary care (e.g., stress management class, sleep enhancement class, chronic pain class).
  • May participate in group medical appointments, including Shared Medical Appointments (SMA) and Drop in Group Medical Appointments (DIGMA), as requested by the PCM.
  • Consults with PCMs on-demand about general issues and specific patients.
  • Ensures PCMs receive same-day verbal and/or written feedback on patients referred.
  • Delivers brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and IBHC services.
  • Participates in team efforts

Care Facilitator (CF) in a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH)

  • Contact referred patients to assess medication treatment adherence for depression,
  • anxiety, and PTSD disorders.
  • Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity.
  • Assess barriers to treatment adherence and help patient problem-solve solutions to barriers.
  • Provide patients with education regarding their behavioral health condition and treatment regimen.
  • Maintain patient information in a patient registry.

Clinical Psychologist position requirements:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
  • Graduate from an APA accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • APA Internship/Residency: Successful completion or internship/residency acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, USAF
  • BLS
  • Clinical competency within the past two years
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted. Any U.S. state honored. 
  • Computer Skills
  • DEA
  • At least 12 months of experience, in the last 24 months with assessing and providing evidence-based individual counseling to patients within a mental health or health care facility.
  • At least 12 months of direct hands-on experience in the last 24 months with computer operations, basic word processing, data entry, and use of an automated medical record system.
  • At least 12 months of experience, in the last 24 months, with assessing and providing evidence-based individual counseling to patients within a mental health or health care facility.
  • At least 12 months of direct hands-on experience in the last 24 months with computer operations, basic word processing, data entry, and use of an automated medical record system.
  • Highly prefer those with recent experience (within the past three years) providing integrated behavioral health services within a primary care setting.
