Physician - Psychiatrist Job Overview:

  • Performs duties as a Psychiatrist with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity and must come to the position with knowledge and experience providing treatment services in any capacity including, but not limited to intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services, and consultation liaison services and must be well-versed to transition to any area as required.
  • Treatments require very advanced knowledge and/or skill and selection from a variety of alternatives.
  • Makes recommendations on major diagnostics and treatment plans.
  • Provides continuing follow-up care for outpatients with acute and chronic disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc. and provides psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions.
  • Directs Quality Assurance studies within his/her area of responsibility and makes decisions that have a serious impact on the lives of others, such as recommending hospitalization or determining a service member's fitness for duty or assessing and completing Medical Evaluation Board (MEB), Temporary Disability Retirement List (TDRL) evaluations, psychological autopsies, sanity boards, command consultations, and other administrative processes as required and prepares reports of such evaluations according to applicable regulations. The HCP identifies patient treatment needs and arranges for a safe therapeutic outcome.
  • Participates, supports, and assumes primary responsibility for specified assignments in Q.I. activities in the Psychiatry Service.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of requirements and benefits of TRICARE and can effectively communicate these to beneficiaries.
  • Prepares and maintains convenience file, outpatient medical record, and inpatient record documentation in accordance with service and SOPs.
  • Prepares case summaries and other correspondence in a timely and effective fashion.

Physician - Psychiatrist Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Computer competency
  • BC/BE: by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology 
  • Licensure: active, unrestricted. Any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • DEA
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). 
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.
  • Completed psychiatric residency training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • Continuously employed in the practice of psychiatry for at least 2 years beyond their residency
  • Clinical knowledge and experience diagnosing and treating a full range of psychiatric disorders and conditions including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
