The Occupational Therapist - Pediatric job is within the military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Occupational Therapist - Pediatric Job Overview:

  • Manage a caseload. Write reports and attend multidisciplinary case meetings to plan and review ongoing treatment
  • Act as the liaison with a wide variety of professionals, such as doctors, physiotherapists, social workers, to give a consistent continuum of care to the patient. Coordinate patient referral to other medical providers and families
  • Devise and review treatment plans, periodically and evaluate progress and modify the treatment as appropriate.
  • Develop a rehabilitation programs which will help re-build lost motor functions.
  • Mentor and coach patients, with various methods of occupational therapy.
  • Advise staff member's acceptable OT treatment modalities. Propose solutions to reduce the challenges and obstacles in participating in activities of daily living.
  • The demonstrated ability to act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate and adhere to perioperative, infection control and safety policies and procedures.
  • Can demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Able to work in potentially hostile environments when working with brain damaged children, emotionally disturbed children, and children with behavioral problems.
  • Plan and administer Pediatric occupational therapy for a broad range of diagnoses to children ranging in age from infancy to 21 years.
  • Perform a full range of treatment procedures using clinical interventions in the areas of neuro-developmental training, sensory integration, fine-motor training, feeding, splinting, adaptive equipment training activities of daily living, and patient/caregiver education.
  • Provide comprehensive therapeutic goals for individual patients who have deficits in their functional roles.
  • Re-evaluate patients when needed to assess progress or lack thereof to therapeutic interventions.
  • Coordinate and participate in a multi-disciplinary clinics clinic for children with a potential diagnosis of Autistic Disorder.
  • Consult and assess children in the following multi-disciplinary clinics: spina bifida, neuro-motor, feeding, and seating. Provide recommendations for necessary equipment and therapeutic services.

Occupational Therapist - Pediatric Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Computer competency 
  • Master's-level in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program of Occupational Therapy by (AOTA). A specialization in Pediatrics is preferred.
  • CPR
  • Certification in the areas of Sensory Integration and /or Neuro-Developmental Training.
  • Continuously employed, for a minimum of five year of full time clinical experience in Pediatric Occupational Therapy, primarily with children in the 0 - 3 year age range.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy requiring extended training and experience in concepts, principals, techniques, and practices of occupational therapy as it relates to pediatrics.
  • Perform therapeutic techniques requiring advanced knowledge in such areas as neuro muscular/developmental and sensory-processing intervention
  • Certified by The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Licensure/Registration:Valid, unrestricted, license, in Occupational Therapy. Any U.S. jurisdiction.
