Radiologic Technologist Job Overview:

  • Receive patients, schedule appointments, prepare and process examination requests and related records, and file images and reports. Will enter and maintain data in radiology information system. 
  • Operate fixed and portable radiographic equipment to produce routine diagnostic medical imaging. Computes techniques and adjusts control panel settings such as kilo voltage, mill amperage, exposure time, and focal spot size. 
  • Position patient to image desired anatomic structures. Selects image recording media, adjusts table or cassette holder, aligns x-ray tube for correct distance and angle, and restricts radiation beam for maximum patient protection. Exposes and processes images. 
  • Select imaging protocols and required accessories, and makes adjustments based on the specific examination requirements. Records and processes the image. Manipulate the recorded image using computer applications. 
  • Assist physician with fluoroscopic, interventional, and special examinations. Instruct patient preparing for procedures. Prepares and assists with contrast media administration. Maintain emergency response cart. Assist physician in treating reactions to contrast material. Prepare sterile supplies and equipment. 
  • Operate accessory equipment as directed. 
  • Operate radiographic equipment in sterile environments, such as surgical radiographic and fluoroscopic support. 
  • Perform general diagnostic imaging activities. Mix film processing solutions, load and unload film holders, and reproduce images. Clean and inspect equipment and perform preventive maintenance. 
  • Review images to ensure quality standards are met. 
  • Monitor personnel to ensure protective procedures such as those in the As Low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) radiation safety, hazardous material communications, and Infection Control according to MTF policy and procedure and IAW JC guidelines. Perform tests on radiation protection equipment. 
  • Perform equipment quality control checks such as processor sensitometry, film-screen contact test, collimation and light field alignment tests, and safelight fog tests. 
  • Receive and position patients so the anatomy/pathology is correctly visualized on the radiograph. 
  • Prepare the patient and adjust equipment for taking X-rays. Position and instruct patient procedure. Administer contrast medium when ordered. 
  • Explain procedure to the patient and provide humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate the patient fear of examination and correctly position the patient for the examination. 

 

Radiologic Technologist Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Computer Competency 
  • Graduate of an accredited X-Ray Technologist Training program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Education (JCERT). 
  • Minimum of two year continuous experience within the last two years, as an X-Ray Technologist 
  • ARRT Licensure/Registration: A current registration as a Radiologic Technologist or Radiation Therapist
  • CPR 
  • U.S. Citizen
