Nurse Practitioner (NP) - PICU Job Overview:

  •  Conduct physical assessment of pediatric patients in the PICU that has 4 beds with expandable capacity to 8 beds including isolation beds.
  • Perform a complete exam and shall obtain diagnostic laboratory and radiological studies as the patient's condition dictates. 
  • Collaborate with the intensivist, or designee to formulate a plan of care that is implemented, re-evaluated and updated until discharge or transfer.
  • Shall, under the direction of the Pediatric Critical Care Attending, consult with and coordinate care of the multidisciplinary medical and surgical team.
  • Case by case basis participate in Pediatric critical care transport and deep sedations under the supervision of the Pediatric Critical Care attending physician.
  • Responsible for the medical training and medical monitoring of the pediatric house staff, as well as the nursing staff assigned to pediatric patients in the PICU.
  • Responsible for coordination related to the Pediatric Critical Care Transport System.
  • Assist the Chief, Pediatric Critical care in the development of all education/training programs for the physicians and nurses involved in the care in PICU patients.
  • Reassess patient's condition and revise plan of care based on identified problems.
  • Instruct patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications (Critical Care Unit, Emergency Room)
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications (Critical Care Unit, Emergency Room)
  • Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient/family demonstrated level of understanding,
  • Operate defibrillator, EKG machine and cardiac monitor.
  • Initiate life saving measures in the absence of a physician.


Nurse Practitioner (NP) - - PICU Job Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license. Any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Bachelor's Degree of Nursing from a National League of Nursing (NLN) approved school; Master's Degree in Nurse Practitioner from an a American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANA) accredited school
  • BCLS
  • PALS
  • ACLS
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience within the past five years, routinely practicing as a nurse practitioner in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) environment.
  • Certified pediatric critical care nurse practitioner
  • U.S Citizen
  • DEA
