Minimum Qualifications: All Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses must possess an active registered nurse license in good standing issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing or a State under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) if they do not reside in MARYLAND. The NLC allows nurses to have one multistate license giving them the ability to practice in their home state and other compact states. However, when working in a remote state, the nurse is held accountable for the nurse practice act of the state where the nurse practices. Nurses are eligible to practice under a compact license if:

  • The legally reside in a NLC state;
  • Hold an active RN or LPN nursing license in good standing;
  • Declare a NCL state as their primary state of residency; and
  • Meet licensure requirements in their home state.The RN will provide direct nursing care, care coordination and/or case management services across a variety programs and clinical services within the Health Department. These programs and clinical services include but are not limited to Family Planning, Reproductive Health, Sexually Transmitted Infections include HIV/AIDS, Refugee Health, Case Management (Medical/Non-Medical), Home Visiting, Immunizations, School Based Wellness, Behavioral Health (Mental Health and Addictions), Tuberculosis (TB), Disease Control Investigation, Adolescent Health, Chronic Disease Management, Acute Care Coordination (ACCU), Laboratory Testing, Adult Evaluation and Review Services (AERS) and Medicaid Transportation. All RNs must maintain current CPR certification.

 

DUTIES FOR THE LPN

The LPN will provide direct nursing care, care coordination and/or case management assistant services across a variety programs and clinical services within the Health Department. These programs and clinical services include but are not limited to Family Planning, Reproductive Health, Sexually Transmitted Infections include HIV/AIDS, Refugee Health, Case Management (Medical/Non-Medical), Home Visiting, Immunizations, School Based Wellness, Behavioral Health (Mental Health and Addictions), Tuberculosis (TB), Disease Control Investigation, Adolescent Health, Chronic Disease, Acute Care Coordination (ACCU), Laboratory Testing and Medicaid Transportation. All LPNs must maintain current CPR certification.

The following skills may be required or preferred based on the needs of the assigned program or clinical area.

  • Phlebotomy
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Data entry into electronic health records and billing system
  • Assistant Case Management Services/Care Coordination
  • Vital Signs Measurement
  • Medication Administration
  • Vaccination Administration
  • Laboratory Specimen Collection
  • Point of Care Waived Testing (Urine Dipstick, Finger stick, oral swab)
  • Patient Education
  • TB skin testing
  • Direct Observation Therapy (in person and/remote)
  • Home Visiting
  • Public Emergency Operations Assistance: Point of Dispensing (POD)
