Physician - Radiology job in Omaha, Nebraska. 

The Physician - Radiology is within the extensive military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Physician - Radiology position overview: 

  • Accomplishes radiological consultation, examination, and evaluation of patients as referred to radiology, at a professional skill level characteristic of a board certified trained specialist.
  • Draws on specialized knowledge of radiology to provide consultation support to the clinic professional staff. Interviews and examines patients, reviews medical histories, evaluates and diagnoses pathology or disease processes, requests other specialized medical services when professional judgment so indicates and follows-up on study results.
  • Takes and interprets diagnostic x-ray films and performs fluoroscopic examinations. Provides on-call consultation and services consistent with other physicians of like training. Instructs technologists with regard to desired films or special positions required.
  • Interprets studies and confers with other medical providers regarding diagnosis.
  • Prepares comprehensive interpretative report of finding for inclusion in medical records.
  • Performs special procedures as deemed necessary for complete patient evaluation including, but not limited to routine and emergent radiography, bone densitometry,
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging to include full range of musculoskeletal examinations, abdominal and pelvic studies, as well as brain and spine imaging; Computed
  • Tomography to include specialized examination for pulmonary, vascular evaluation, and oncologic staging; Ultrasound imaging to include vascular and breast mass evaluation; screening and diagnostic mammography; fluoroscopic procedures of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary tract including, upper and lower GI series, barium swallow, small bowel follow through, air contrast and solid column barium enemas, intravenous pyelograms, voiding cystourethrogram, hystersalpingogram and nephrostogram; procedures of the musculoskeletal system including, arthrography, intra-articular aspirations, myelograms and infusions; ultrasound guided needle biopsies and aspirations, ductography, vacuum assist stereotactic biopsies and needle localization procedures. Interprets pathology reports in conjunction with radiologic studies to provide radiologic/pathologic correlation. Prepares an interpretative report of findings for inclusion in patient records. Coordinates radiological services with other medical activities within the clinic. Utilizes patient history to optimize examination protocols and scheduling. Assigns and supervises technologists in study completion. Advises on radiological equipment and supplies as needed. Interprets all accumulated data with regard to individual cases to formulate a complete understanding of the problem present and presents implications and appropriate follow-up recommendations. Meets all Air Force, state, federal and national requirements for the practice of diagnostic radiology.
  • Maintains Continuing Medical Education requirements and participates in teaching activities of resident physicians, physician assistant students and technical staff.
  • Maintains radiological proficiency by keeping abreast of current developments.
  • Maintains records of radiological education accomplishments. Maintains current board certifications and state medical license; conducts practice consistent with current accepted national guidelines and recommendations. Performs and interprets radiological

  • Provides accurate, clear, concise and timely documentation of patient encounters and follow-up within required standards and meets other AFMS/Medical Group/unit productivity standards.
  • Assures that established requirements and procedures of radiological practice are adhered to and that a friendly but professional attitude toward personnel and patients is maintained. Provides input and guidance on clinical aspects and/or resolves issues relating to the management of imaging schedules to ensure access-to-care standards are met.
  • Prioritizes services or support staff activities in coordinating appropriate use of imaging services.
  • Meets or exceeds all radiation safety requirements in the radiologic work place. Promotes radiation safety by coordinating with radiation safety officers to address radiation safety concerns.
  • Performs radiation safety consultations as required. Provides imaging services consistent with As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles.  

Physician - Radiology position Requirements:  

  • BLS
  • PALS
  • Must have prior PACS and voice dictation experience
  • Have been continuously employed in the practice of radiology or in training for 24 months within the last 36 months or a minimum of 2 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology beyond residency training is required.
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.

This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

 

  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine. Any U.S. jurisdiction honored.
  • Board eligible or board certified
  • Demonstrated clinical competency within the past two years
