Radiologist Technologist - Mammography Job Overview:

  • Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services
  • Greets, arrives, and schedules patients for the entire spectrum of diagnostic imaging 
  • examinations. Provides outstanding customer service to all customers, staff, and visitors to the section. Provides images via burning images to disk for patients upon request for all diagnostic images. Answers basic questions concerning procedures or finds the appropriate technologist to assist. Answers front desk telephone and guides customers as needed. 
  • Coordinates patient scheduling activities of the medical facility to ensure a smooth flow of the daily services.
  • Arranges for patient consultations with other departments/facilities for such services as x-rays, and laboratory tests.
  • Relays information to patients such as preparations needed for laboratory tests, the status of laboratory tests, x-rays, and other procedures, proper diets for certain conditions, and other general information. 
  • Maintains daily appointment schedules and generates documents/reports using the automated system and appropriate software. 
  • Receives and answers or relays incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and electronic messages.
  • Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures. 
  • Operate mammography units, to include stereo tactic breast biopsy uni t. 
  • Receive and interpret requests or instructions for mammography exams. 
  • Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms to include spot compressions and magnification views when necessary. 
  • Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol. 
  • Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required. 
  • Identify abnormalities and determine need for additional mammography views per department protocol (either before or after consulting with department radiologists). Notify physician of significant exams requiring immediate attention. 
  • Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for mammography exams and procedures. 
  • Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists. 
  • Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy. 
  • Perform daily, monthly, quarterly and annual quality control inspections on all mammography units and film processors. Perform daily warm ups or all mammography units. Perform required quality assurance (QA) on equipment in accordance to American College of Radiology (ACR), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). 
  • Provide mammography training for students and technologists as needed. 
  • Attends and participates in all meeting, staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities as required by the supervisor. 
  • As directed, perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policy. 
  • Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of a patient exam performed within the radiology department and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. 
  • Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest. 

 

 

Radiologist Technologist - Mammography Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Computer skills to enter patient data

  • Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)

  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT), with current registration as a Mammography Technologist (M) and Radiologic Technologist (R)

  • Five (5) years of experience within the last eight (8) years as a mammography and radiologic technologist. Required performance of 200 mammography exams with the last two (2) years.
