Registered Nurse (RN) - Pain Managment Job Overview:

  • Strongly preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits 
  • Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, oxygen analyzers, and other clinic specific equipment including but not limited to c-arm fluoroscopy unit, ultrasound, patient bed, radiofrequency machine. 
  • Possession of basic knowledge of operating a wide variety of medical equipment/non-medical equipment in the clinic and the operating room to ensure patient staff safety, proper equipment maintenance and accessibility. 
  • Ability to administer medication for conscious sedation and pain related infusions to include, but not limited to, lidocaine and ketamine under the supervision of a privileged provider. 
  • Ability to perform/assist with procedures such as pulse oximetry, glucose testing, and other clinic specified procedures. Be able to assist pain management physicians during spinal interventions, to include fluoroscopy machine maneuvering and surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Provides clinical oversight of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic treatments and procedures. 
  • Ensures proper documentation of procedures and treatments 
  • Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed. Ensures medication/supplies are replenished. 
  • Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel 


Registered Nurse (RN) - Pain Managment Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by NLNAC or CCNE
  • BLS by AHA
  • ACLS
  • RN Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license. Any U.S. state license honored.
  • Registered Nurse-Board Certified (RN-BC) Pain Management, highly desired
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience
  • Experience as a Pain Management Nurse for at least 12 months is preferred, which can include having worked full or part time. NOTE: Time spent completing courses in pain procedure techniques and management is creditable toward experience requirements). 
  • Health care providers registered or certified by national/medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for CME to remain current as prescribed 
  • Knowledge of pain procedures and education methods. 
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
