The Phlebotomy Technician job is within the military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Phlebotomy Technician Job Overview:

  • Follow all applicable instructions when collecting blood samples from patients. 
  • Accession patients and perform all processes involved thereof. 
  • Practice proper patient identification as outlined by the accrediting agencies. 
  • Properly label vials with labels containing patient identification, date and time of collection. 
  • Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient 
  • Transport specimen samples to the back of the laboratory for testing/shipping. 
  • Centrifuge blood samples if this is allowed. 
  • Work with large numbers of patients varying in age and health status. 
  • Practice infection control standards at all times. 
  • Present and maintain a professional appearance. 
  • Inventory and stock supplies for Central Operations.


Phlebotomy Technician Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Certificate
  • Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes 120 didactic hours (or required by state law). 
  • Certification/registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or AMT
  • Completed 1040 hours as a Phlebotomy Technician within past 3 years. Must have performed 50 successful venipuncture and 10 successful skin punctures. 
  • Computer Skill Competency
  • Demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years in the required clinical discipline as specified in this PWS.
