Psychologist - Behavior Health Outpatient job in Charleston, South Carolina. 

The Psychologist - Behavior Health Outpatient job is within the extensive military medical system and is a civilian position. Psychologist - Behavior Health Outpatient Job Overview:

  • Function in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) location as an internal behavioral health consultant (IBHC) and/or Behavioral Health Care Facilitator (BHCF)
  • Provides brief cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care pace
  • May provide classes in format appropriate for primary care
  • Must be skillful and tactful in communicating with people who may be physically or mentally ill, uncooperative, fearful, emotionally distraught, and occasionally dangerous. 
  • Must possess organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills to articulate medical requirements to patients, families/care givers, medical and non-medical staff in a professional and courteous way. Successfully consults with PCMs on-demand about general issues and specific patients. Ensures PCMs receive same-day verbal and/or written feedback on patients referred. 
  • Delivers brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and IBHC services. Participates in team efforts to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise clinical pathway programs needed in the clinic. 
  • Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in the patient's electronic medical record within the allowable timeframe defined by the MTF standard after the patient is seen. 
  • Contact referred patients to assess medication treatment adherence for depression, anxiety, and PTSD disorders. 
  • Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity, and assess barriers to treatment adherence and help patient problem-solve solutions to barriers. 
  • Provide patients with education regarding their behavioral health condition and treatment regimen. 
  • Maintain patient information in a patient registry, accurate and current notes 

 

Psychologist - Behavior Health Outpatient Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • Knowlegeable in HIPAA, accreditation standards of Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), and The Joint Commission
  • License to practice psychology. Active, unrestricted. Any U.S. state honored. 
  • One year experience in the last three years in the evaluation and treatment of patients who have pain, psychological factors affecting their physical condition, or difficulty coping with medical problems. 
  • At least 12 months of direct hands-on experience in the last 24 months with computer operations, basic word processing, data entry, and use of an automated medical record system. 
  • Completed an APA-accredited internship/residency in professional psychology or an internship/residency acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force.
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Degree in clinical, counseling, or combined professional-scientific psychology from an APA accrediated program.

Waiver of this requirement (i.e., graduates of regionally accredited universities or schools of professional psychology) must be staffed through AFMOA/SGHW. Note: If the requirement in paragraph 5.2.6.1. is waived, the qualifying degree must be from a program accredited by the APA. 

  • An APA-accredited predoctoral internship in professional psychology (This 1-year internship is part of an APA-accredited doctoral program. The AF accepts this internship from any APA-accredited site including designated AF sites). Waiver of an APA-accredited program must be staffed through AFMOA/SGHW. Note: If the 116 AFI44-119 16 AUGUST 2011 requirement in paragraph 5.2.6.1. is waived, the internship must be an APA-accredited doctoral program. 
  • Optional postdoctoral fellowship allows for sub specialization in operations/aviation psychology, child/adolescent psychology, clinical health psychology, or neuropsychology.
