Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Adult Gerontology Acute Care Job Overview: 

  • Provides advanced nursing and medical care across the continuum of healthcare services to meet the specialized physiological needs of acute, complex and critically ill adults experiencing episodic illness, stable and progressive chronic illness, acute exacerbation of chronic illness, or terminal illness.
  • The care is continuous and comprehensive provided in a variety of in-patient and may provide follow up in the out-patient settings.
  • Obtains histories, physical exams, and employs diagnostic reasoning to establish a plan of care for the patient.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team and initiates consults and referrals as appropriate.
  • Utilizes invasive and non-invasive interventions and procedures to monitor and promote physiologic stability; specific procedures performed are delineated in the provider credentials and privileges list and patient specialty care needs. Uses and develops protocols in conjunction with existing clinical guidelines. Knows capabilities of support staff and offers opportunities for personal and professional development. Guides support staff in gaining breadth and depth of experience in order to enhance delivery of patient care. 
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice. Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities.
  • Serve as an ICU consultant to nurses and other health care professionals.
  • Provide expertise and resource information to other healthcare providers, patients and families, and the community at large.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate standards of care/practice guidelines/policies and procedures/protocols within area of specialization.
  • Develop and/or participate in programs and projects in areas of expertise to facilitate the attainment of the goals and objectives of the Assigned Unit/Specialty.
  • Review information technology systems, databases and resources.

 

Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Adult Gerontology Acute Care Job Qualifications:

  • BLS
  • DEA
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • Graduation from an NLN accredited program in nursing acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF
  • Current registered nurse and advanced practice licensure by a state board of nursing
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice OR Master's Degree from an accredited AG/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program is mandatory. 
  • Knowledge of clinical standards, prevention standards, and Air Force health instructions are expected.
  • Working knowledge of CHCS, AHLTA, or designated electronic medical records computer systems is desirable.
