Clinical Psychologist - Post Deployment Health Re-Asssessment (PDHRA) job in Oceana, Virginia. 

The Clinical Psychologist job is a civilian position within the extensive military medical system. This position is in support of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and is based at Oceana's Primary Care Clinic or the Operational Command.

Clinical Psychologist - Post Deployment Health Re-Asssessment (PDHRA) Job Overview:

  • Provide care for eligible patients resulting from deployment related screenings
     
  • Emphasis will be on the treatment of mental health to include post-traumatic stress dis orders and other combat related psychological symptoms. Family member care may be included.
  • Support deployment related health care services, such as but not inclusive of the Periodic Health Assessment, Pre or Post Deployment Health Assessments, Deployment Health Screenings, and assess the results, treat, and refer patients for further treat
  • ment as appropriate.
  • Provide deployment health screening services to all service members either individually or in groups, at the DPC or at the Operational Unit as determined necessary.
  • Assist in scheduling initial and follow-on appointments or referrals for service members before they leave the clinic or the screening at the Line unit.
  • Ensure that all service members that require follow-on appointments or referrals will have them before leaving the clinic.
  • May be utilized for walk-in or other scheduled appointments in support of other MTF clinics.
  • Perform a full range of clinical psychology services in accordance with the core privileges and/or supplemental privileges
  • Administer programs of treatment to mentally and emotionally disturbed individual adjustments; help medical and surgical patients deal with illnesses or injuries.
  • Assist in treating rehabilitation patients.
  • Treat individuals in times of personal crisis such as a divorce or death of a loved one.
  • Interview patients and study medical and social case histories.
  • Diagnose and evaluate mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administer programs of treatment.
  • Perform clinical evaluations including administration and interpretation of psychological,
  • neuropsychological, cognitive and personality tests, and provide clinical consultation re
  • garding selection of psychological tests. The HCW may also be required to administer
  • neuropsychological assessments and perform clinical evaluation and/or referral based on the neuropsychological assessment tool.
  • Communicate with family members and significant others in order to further the effectiveness of patient treatment and progress.

Clinical Psychologist - Post Deployment Health Re-Asssessment (PDHRA) Job Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited university or professional School.
  • BLS
  • Licensure: valid, unrestricted. Any U.S. jurisdiction honored.
  • APA Internship: Successful completion
  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience within the preceding three (3) years working with a patient population with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
