The Psychologist is based within the extensive military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Psychologist position overview:

For the Psychologist role

  • Conduct psychological evaluations utilizing information from clinical interviews, psychological testing, and collateral sources, as appropriate. 
  • Establish psychiatric diagnoses  
  • Provide psychological treatment for individuals and groups; help medical and surgical patients deal with illnesses or injuries. 
  • Assist in rehabilitation of patients. 
  • Conduct applied research and clinical investigations in clinical/behavioral health psychology. 
  • Clinical/Counseling Psychology. Responsible for and applies psychological procedures and techniques, including interviewing, behavioral assessment, evidenced-based therapies, and psychological testing/psychodiagnostic testing, in the evaluation, diagnosis American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Disorders., and treatment of psychological and neuropsychological disorders. 
  • Individual, family and group psychotherapy, and couples therapy, alcohol and drug treatment evaluations. 
  • Consults with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders and school districts, as required. 
  • Maintain accurate and current notes

 

For the Psychologist - IBHC role

 

  • Provide psychological treatment for individuals and groups; help medical and surgical patients deal with illnesses or injuries. 
  • Assist in rehabilitation of patients. 
  • Clinical Psychologist is required to function in a patient-centered medical home location as a full-time equivalent provider as an internal behavioral health consultant (IBHC) and/or Behavioral Health Care Facilitator (BHCF) 
  • May provide classes in format appropriate for primary care
  • Delivers brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and IBHC services. 
  • Effectively manage a full daily patient load, as defined by the Mental Health Business Practice Standards and BHOP Manual of completing approximately 8-14 patient encounters per day
  • IBHCs have between 3,000 and 7,500 adult enrollees in the Family Health Clinic will provide both IBHC and CF services

 

 

Psychologist position requirements:

 

For the Psychologist role

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
  • Graduate from an APA accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology. 
  • BLS
  • Minimum of one year experience as a licensed clinical psychologist and required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions 
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted. Any U.S. state honored. 

 

For the Psychologist-IBHC role, additional requirements:

  • Minimum of one year experience as a licensed psychologist and required to meet clinical competency requirements
  • Successful completion from an APA accrediated internship in psychology
