The Audiology Technician job is within the military medical system and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Audiology Technician Job Overview:

  • Immediately notifies the audiologist of unusual abnormality and/or medically threatening testing or appropriate follow-up by writing referral consult.
  • Based on thorough analysis of test results, refers patients to the audiologist for further
  • Counsels' patients on hearing loss and possible treatment options. 
  • Interprets test results and explains test results to patients as needed.
  • Receive patients and seats and instructs them in audiometric testing procedures; operates a variety of audiometric equipment; provides each patient with a printed copy of their DD2215 or DD2216.
  • Employee reviews records to determine type of test required.
  • Enters patient history into computer database
  • Fits hearing protection and instructs patient in hearing conservation techniques;
  • Operates computerized audiometer to test up to eight patients simultaneously; determines if a significant threshold shift (STS) has occurred in hearing or if hearing loss exists and as indicated
  • Refers patients for further testing in hearing conservation or to the audiology clinic for diagnostic testing
  • Schedules follow up hearing conservation tests. Employee determines if hearing loss warrants a profile in accordance with established standards.
  • Tests eight hearing conservation audiometers daily for calibration; reports data; and forwards data for compilation with data from all Army installations. 
  • Responsible for independently testing all soldiers 
  • Employee maintains audiology equipment in a clean, ready to use state.


Audiology Technician Job Qualifications:

  • Completes the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS) Resources course
  • BLS by AHA or MTN
  • Clinical competency within the past two years OR one year of experience as an Audiology Technician after graduation.
