Clinical Nurse - Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Job Overview:

  • Provides comprehensive professional psychiatric nursing care to Mental Health Flight patients with psychiatric conditions ranging from normal to complex complications requiring sophisticated, interventions and treatment. 
  • Assesses and identifies individual patient care needs and provides the type and amount of care required to meet the individual needs of each patient, making independent nursing diagnosis providing health care instruction and or appropriate referral to a physician or other department. 
  • Assists providers with patient examinations, therapeutic measures, and procedures.
  • Provides psychiatric nurse oversight to the ADAPT program. 
  • Observes each patients vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, weight, etc. Request x-rays, PAP, and pathology studies as directed by physicians. 
  • Preforms case management, utilization management, and demand management functions. 
  • Executes medical orders, guiding mental health technicians and other medical personnel as appropriate 
  • Obtains and screens x-rays and laboratory studies, notifying psychiatrist of abnormal results and arranges for appropriate follow up care as needed. 
  • Screens telephone requests for urgent care from patients without appointments and assists the patient to arrange for treatment. Provides telephone triage, manages medication refills, and coverage for walk-in patients. Provides triage for acute walk in patients. 
  • Remains alert for signs and symptoms of patient distress in the clinic area and provides emergency care Maneuver, bleeding control, treatment of injuries, etc., in the absence of the provider. 
  • Provides individualized, thorough instructions on medication use. 
  • Emphasizes the preventive, curative and restorative aspects of adjunct therapies. Follows established protocols using professional judgement to individualize instructions to meet each beneficiary's needs. 
  • Conducts individual and group medication education classes. Provides instructions to ancillary personnel engaged in carrying out nursing and administrative duties. Ensures assignments are compatible with the individual's skill level. 
  • Participates in department's in-service/briefings, and in continuing quality improvement measures. Participates in evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of activities/services of unit by organizing nursing monitoring and evaluations activities. 
  • Assist Nurse-Manager in establishing unit organization, operating instructions, policies and procedures for continuous Quality improvement/Risk Management Program, Infection Control, and unit objectives. Promote interpersonal and interdepartmental communications, health education, and staff development; assist in identifying, analyzing, and resolving continuous Quality Improvement issues. 



Clinical Nurse - Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Job Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree of Nursing
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by NLNAC or CCNE
  • Experience: One year of experience in nursing as identified in the TO after graduation. 
  • RN Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted. Any U.S. state
  • BLS
  • Demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years
  • Minimum of 5 years psychiatric nursing experience
  • Certified, or be willing to acquire certification, in adult psychiatric mental health nursing highly preferred
