The Dietitian job is based on Tinker Air Force Base and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. The hospitals and medical clinics provide services to the active duty military service members, military retirees, and their families and provide a full range of medical services.

Dietitian job overview:

  • Strengthens human performance and total force readiness by providing nutrition & healthy lifestyle coaching, and health awareness, education, intervention programs to reduce healthcare demands and costs.
  • Promoting a community environment that facilitates health instead of the need for constant healthcare.
  • Interventions targeted beneficiaries, including family members and retirees.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all Healthcare to Health Promotion nutrition-related prevention programs
  • Administers comprehensive nutrition prevention programs, nutrition assessment, prescriptions, coaching/counseling, and various other health and nutrition programs/activities that meet the needs of the installation community at large.
  • Executes nutrition policy and program requirements
  • Assesses nutrition behaviors, environment and needs of the beneficiary population using available and applicable tools
  • Regularly researches, develops/acquires, and maintains materials to implement comprehensive evidence-based nutrition programs and services
  • Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy for clients
  • Employs adult learning, behavior change theories
  • Maintains data quality management
  • Provides expertise to develop, implement, and evaluate nutrition programs for all populations.
  • Communicates and coordinates nutrition health promotion programs among local leadership and targets beneficiary populations.
  • Employs appropriate social marketing tools to meet program goals and objectives.

Dietitian job qualifications:

  • Current registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) 
  • Licensure: active, valid, unrestricted
  • Three (3) years of experience in the last 5 years in health promotion, obesity & weight management and lifestyle counseling, including knowledge of the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes studies and the National Diabetes Prevention Program.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating group health education classes and activities, organizing and implementing outreach events, and working with both youth and adult populations.
  • Should be a role model in healthy lifestyle behaviors.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication, ability to effectively communication with a wide variety of individuals, and use of technology to present and convey the information effectively.
