The Physician - Radiologist is based on Malmstrom Air Force base and is a civilian position. Civilian and military personnel work together in the extensive military medical system. Physician - Radiologist position overview:

  • Review and interpret routine diagnostic procedures and nuclear medicine studies
  • Provide advice and opinions upon request by the Chief of Radiology in support of diagnostic interpretations of radiological examinations and procedures as provided in conjunction with patient care
  • Read STAT diagnostic studies and provide verbal/written results of critical values to clinical staff. 
  • Interpret all routine studies (including plain films, CT, US, nuclear medicine and MRI as available at the MTF) and dictate for transcription to CHCS.
  • Accomplish fluoroscopic exams (if capability exists) and any credentialed special procedures on the daily schedule established at the direction of the Chief, Department of Radiology.  These fluoroscopic exams and special procedures require same day interpretation.
  • Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF, Federal law or Air Force Instruction.
  • Take part in hospital/clinic Quality Assurance Programs as required to meet the standards of the American College of Radiology, JCAHO and the USAF.
  • Attend and participate in patient care team reports, conferences, professional staff meetings and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to assigned cases and/or performance of services.
  • Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the medical treatment facility.
  • Perform and provide diagnostic interpretation of diagnostic radiologic imaging examinations, and provide diagnostic consultation related to diagnostic imaging to other members of the medical staff.  Examinations, procedures, and studies performed will include the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic work that would be performed by a board certified diagnostic radiologist.  Routine studies such as plain film interpretation, the normal range of fluoroscopic examinations and common imaging procedures, the interpretation of MRI, CT scans, and ultrasound and mammography exams are required. 
  • Emergency radiological procedures and cases, which include any procedure the health care provider is credentialed to perform, as clinically indicated, outpatient clinical consultations including plain film studies.
  • Routine radiological procedures including, but not limited to, routine plain film, routine fluoroscopic procedures (barium enema, Upper GI, IVP, pediatric fluoroscopy, Ultrasound (vascular, OB and routine abdominal), CT, nuclear medicine, mammography (including needle localizations and stereotactic biopsies), minor interventional procedures including ultrasound guided biopsy, and CT guided biopsy (no angiography).

Physician - Radiologist position qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.
    CME of the AMA, AAMC, 
    Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on OCA of the AOA, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Board eligible or board certified
  • Internship/Residency: Successful completion of approved agency
  • At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting
    (i.e., a 1-year internship 
    or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training)
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license
  • ability to pass security screening for base access
