Job for an Occupational Therapy Assistant in Jacksonville, NC. 

The Occupational Therapy Assistant position is a civilian position on Camp Lejeune and is providing services within the extensive military medical system, which provides services to active duty service members, military retirees, and their families. Civilian and military personnel work together in the hospitals and clinics. As a civilian healthcare provider, you will have a dedicated FSR Program Manager supporting you in addition to an office providing administrative support.

Occupational Therapy Assistant position qualifications:

  • Minimum of one-year experience in the past three years as an Occupational Therapy Assistant 
  • license or certificate to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (any U.S. state or territory honored. Active, current, and unrestricted)
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant certification as determined by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy
  • Graduated from an Occupational Therapy Assistant program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)


Occupational Therapy Assistant position overview:

  • Provide a full range of Occupational Therapy Assistant services, and assist the Occupational Therapists with measurements, assessments and therapeutic recommendations to assist with re-evaluation and future treatment planning.
  • Assist in the evaluation of patient's daily living skills and capacities to determine extent of abilities and limitations.
  • Prepare treatment areas for incoming patients. Transport patients to department, and prepare patients and equipment for treatment.
  • Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment and home exercise instruction for assigned patients, as directed by the supervising occupational therapist. Under supervision, administer such treatment as exercise, soft tissue mobilization, stretching, home exercise instruction, compression therapy, wound care, and other physical agent modalities.
  • Assist the Occupational Therapist in administering the occupational therapy care for patients who are physically, neurologically, or behaviorally/mentally impaired. Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities, and daily-living activities.          
  • Assist in planning and implementing rehabilitation programs and activities established by the Occupational Therapists, designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance task performances, diminish or correct pathology, and to promote and maintain health and self-sufficiency.
  • Design and adapt equipment and working/living environment to support the maximum level of independence for every patient.
  • Fabricate splints and other assistive devices. Fit patients for, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces; prostheses; supportive devices such as wheelchairs; and adaptive equipment.
  • Observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and report orally or in writing to the occupational therapist.
  • Record treatment, response, alterations of treatment plans, patient progress and patient's reactions as needed in the patient's chart and/or automated systems. 
  • Carry out general activity and psychoeducational instructional programs for individuals or groups as required.
