Registered Nurse (RN) - ENT Job Overview:

  • Evaluate and teach pre- and post-operative ENT patients and their family regarding clinical findings, safe use of medications, wound care, tracheotomy care, pre and post-operative care instructions, accessing community resources, correct use of medical equipment, and patient and family responsibilities of both the patient and their family.
  • Counsel and educate the patient and family of skills and behaviors that promote recovery, improve functions, and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Provide telephone advice to the patient and family based on the nursing process and usual clinical practices for pre and post-operative patients; refer problems to physician as needed.
  • Distribute patient education materials that reflect the patient treatment practices and policies of the ENT Clinic.
  • Provide one (1) to one (1) or small group instruction to corpsmen that require help with Corpsmen Basic Competencies such as intravenous (IV) administration, medication math and medication administration.
  • Maintain readiness of supplies, equipment and patient education materials and replenish as necessary while performing nursing duties associated with assisting the physician during patient care encounters.
  • Assist the physician and nurse case manager with diagnostic and surgical procedures performed in the ENT clinic. Use the nursing process to identify potential patient complications and adverse reactions related to procedures and surgery. Use judgment to assess patient condition, stop treatment, or notify the physician appropriately.
  • Perform nursing tasks such as suture removal, tracheotomy care, wound care, IV administration, and medication administration.
  • Assist physician with laser procedures performed in the ENT Clinic, maintain laser safety checks and logs.
  • Coordinate appointments for discharged patients, physician-to-physician referrals, Veterans Affairs (VA) resource sharing referrals, and Tricare patients requiring priority access to the ENT clinic.
  • Review and disposition consults to ENT clinic within the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) system.
  • Use CHCS to schedule patient appointments and surgeries, enter physician orders, check drug information, and to check lab and radiology reports.
  • Use Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) or designated system for documenting telephone consults and encounter notes.
  • Complete Tumor charts and Ear charts after patient encounter.
  • Promote health maintenance and preventive health initiatives in caring for patients in the ambulatory setting.
  • Provide technical support to paraprofessional nursing staff.

 

Registered Nurse (RN) - ENT Job Qualifications:

  • 1 year within the last two (2) years as an RN working in medical-surgical or ENT clinical setting.
  • Graduate of a state accredited professional nursing program OR a program accredited by ACEN or CCNE
  • RN Licensure: active, current, unrestricted. Any U.S. state. 
  •  
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or AHA or ARC Healthcare Provider Course
